Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Beijing
Upon your arrival in Beijing, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Beijing
Morning sightseeing begins at Tiananmen Square, one of the largest city squares in the world. Then continue to two UNESCO World Heritage sites. The first is the Forbidden City, the palace complex that was home to Chinese emperors for five centuries. After lunch at a local restaurant, tour hutongs by pedicabs. Then enjoy a private kite-making class and spend time with a local family. (B,L)

Day 3: Beijing
Spend the day at two more UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Great Wall and the Ming Tombs. On your way to your excursion, drive by the famous “Bird’s Nest,” the National Stadium used in the 2008 Beijing Olympics,where you will be able to fly your Chinese kite. Once arriving at the Great Wall, walk along this architectural masterpiece that has been one of the symbols of China for nearly 2000 years. Then proceed to the Ming Tombs, a collection of mausoleums built by the emperors of the Ming dynasty, starting in the early 15th century. At night, enjoy an authentic Peking Duck dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Beijing | Xi’an
Morning visit to the Summer Palace, a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. Lunch and then transfer to the airport for flight to Xi’an, where you will be met upon arrival and transferred to your hotel. (B,L)

Day 5: Xi’an
Travel through the scenic countryside to tour another UNESCO World Heritage site, the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor with its extraordinary Terracotta army. This collection of sculptures has thousands of life-sized figures. In the afternoon, visit the Provincial Museum and bike ride on the ancient City Wall. Later, see a 7-story pagoda that was part of the Silk Road. (B,L)

Day 6: Xi’an | Chengdu
Morning transfer to train station for the high-speed train to Chengdu. Arrival, meet and greet and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon visit the People’s Park, the largest green area in Chengdu’s downtown. Then continue to Jinli Street, a commercial pedestrian street with buildings in the Qing Dynasty style.(B,L)

Day 7: Chengdu
Spend the morning at the Chengdu Panda Base a non-profit center dedicated to breeding and conservation for giant pandas. You will have an opportunity to watch them up close in an environment that simulates the natural habitat. After lunch at a local restaurant, travel to the Mount Emei Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the Leshan Giant Buddha. Carved in a red sandstone hill, this 233-foot statue is the tallest stone Buddha statue in the world. (B,L)

Day 8: Chengdu | Guilin
Morning transfer to the airport for your flight to scenic Guilin. Arrival, meet and greet, transfer to hotel. In the afternoon visit the Reed Flute Caves, also known as “The Palace of Natural Arts,” the largest natural limestone cave in Guilin. In the evening, see a cormorant fishing demonstration, a traditional method of fishing with trained cormorants. (B,L)

Day 9: Guilin
Morning cruise on the Li River. Marvel at the impressive karst mountain landscape with literally hundreds of karst peaks towering up from both sides of the river. Then visit Yangshuo town, a popular tourist spot for mountain climbing, hiking, biking and other outdoor adventures. Enjoy a bicycle ride through the beautiful countryside, see the local rice paddies, water buffalos, and resident families. (B,L)

Day 10: Guilin | Shanghai
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival, meet and greet, then transfer to your hotel. (B)

Day 11: Shanghai
Full-day city tour of Shanghai, including The Bund, a popular waterfront area, the Children’s Palace and the classical Yu Yuan Gardens, a highlight of the Old City. After dinner, enjoy an acrobatic show. (B,L)

Day 12: Depart Shanghai or Optional Transfer to Hong Kong
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight (B)

 or fly to Hong Kong where your private car will take you to your hotel.

Optional: Hong Kong
Morning tour of Victoria Peak with a ride on the 120-year-old Peak Tram. Continue to Aberdeen floating village with a sampan ride and visit Stanley Market. In the afternoon, experience Hong Kong like a local, using the state-of-the-art Mass Transit Railway system, old favorite double-decker trams, and the legendary Star Ferry crossing Victoria Harbor. Stroll through the Bird Market and Goldfish Market before returning to your hotel. (B)

Optional: Hong Kong
Morning private car excursion to Lantau Island begins with a cable car ride for an astonishing bird’s eye view of the South China Sea. Visit the culturally-themed Ngong Ping Village, the renowned Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. Enjoy a Chinese vegetarian lunch. (B,L)
