Day 1: Arrival in Santiago
Upon arrival in Santiago, you will be transferred to your hotel.
Day 2: Santiago | Easter Island
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Easter Island. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. (B)
Day 3: Easter Island
Morning visit Ana Kai Tangata, a cave that has many paintings made from mineral pigments found on the island. Next, continue to Ranu Kau, the second of the three main volcanoes that erupted about 2.5 million years ago. Then visit the volcano where the greatest concentration of petroglyphs exists. Your afternoon starts at the archaeological center which, in the 1960s, was the first site to be properly restored. The tour also visits Puna Pau, where the “pukao” or hats (topknots) that crowned the moai were made. (B)
Day 4: Easter Island
Visit the ruins of the temple of Akahanga where you can see hats of the moai on the ground. Continue to the volcano where all the moai on the island were carved out of the rock. Climb to the edge of the crater of the volcano and see moai scattered about the inner slopes in various stages of construction. Continue to Ahu Tongariki, where many of the huge moai were toppled by a large “seaquake” in 1960. The tour ends at the beautiful Anakena Beach with time for a swim in the sea before returning to Hanga Roa. (B,L)
Day 5: Easter Island
Visit the Father Sebastian Englert Museum, which has an original moai eye on display. Next visit one of the largest and best-preserved ceremonial centers. Your tour continues on to an old ceremonial complex that dates back to the 6th century. Finally visit the ceremonial site where legend claims that the island’s leader, the Ariki Henua, was proclaimed king. (B)
Day 6: Depart Easter Island
Transfer to the airport to your return flight. (B)
