If you love the outdoors then you will love Araucania in southern Chile. Famous for the Sierra Nevada and the active Llaima volcano, Reserva Nacional Malalcahuello has a network of trails and includes glacial valleys, araucaria tree forests and lakes such as Conguillío.

It has a great variety of fauna, such as the small and rare pudu deer. We went trekking along the path of the park where we were able to see up close the valuable ecosystems testimonies of the volcanic force. Its deep valleys and steep slopes covered with araucaria trees, show great scars caused by lava flows of Llaima volcano. I can see why it was named the leading adventure tourism destination by the World Travel Awards. Trekking, skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, biking, horseback riding, and more. In fact, the USA ski team were training at our hotel.

Team #expeditionchile2018 had the opportunity to try a little of everything. Soaking in the hot springs at Cañon del Blanco, right under the Sierra Nevada volcano was the perfect way to end a day of adventure activities.  After our soak, we gathered around a fire for a barbecue and listened to Mapuche natives share their stories in song of their magical environment.
