Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Beijing
Welcome to Beijing! Upon arrival, meet and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2: Beijing
Morning sightseeing begins at Tiananmen Square, one of the largest city squares in the world. Then continue to two UNESCO World Heritage sites. The first is the Forbidden City, the palace complex that was home to Chinese emperors for five centuries. Then in the afternoon visit the Summer Palace, a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. Enjoy a dinner of famous Peking Duck. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Beijing
Spend the day at two more UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Great Wall and the Ming Tombs. On your way to your excursion, drive by the famous “Bird’s Nest,” the National Stadium used in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Once arriving at the Great Wall, walk along this architectural masterpiece that has been one of the symbols of China for nearly 2000 years. Then proceed to the Ming Tombs, a collection of mausoleums built by the emperors of the Ming dynasty, starting in the early 15th century. (B,L)

Day 4: Beijing | Xi’an
Morning flight to Xi’an. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. (B,L)

Day 5: Xi’an
Travel through the scenic countryside to tour another UNESCO World Heritage site, the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor with its extraordinary Terracotta army. This collection of sculptures has thousands of life-sized figures. In the afternoon, visit the ancient City Wall and stop at a 7-story pagoda that was part of the Silk Road. (B,L)

Day 6: Xi’an | Lhasa
Morning transfer for your flight to Lhasa. Arrive, meet and greet and transfer to your hotel. (D)

Day 7: Lhasa
Today’s highlight is the imposing Potala Palace, former winter residence of the Dalai Lama.  This UNESCO Word Heritage site is considered one of the world’s architectural wonders and is the heart of prayer and pilgrimage. Afternoon visit to the 600-year-old Sera Monastery, followed by a visit to typical a Tibetan home.  (B,L)

Day 8: Lhasa
Morning visit to the Drepung Monastery, the largest of all Tibetan monasteries. After lunch at a local restaurant, return to the Sera Monastery to watch monk debating. Then continue to Norbulinka, a masterpiece of Tibetan art, that was the summer palace of Dalai Lama . At night, enjoy a Tibetan dinner and cultural folk show.  (B,L,D)

Day 9: Lhasa | Chengdu
Morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Chengu. Arrival, meet and greet and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon visit the People’s Park, the largest green area in Chengdu’s downtown. Then continue to  Jinli Street, a commercial pedestrian street with buildings in the Qing Dynasty style. (B)

Day 10: Chengdu
Spend the morning at the Chengdu Panda Base a non-profit center dedicated to the breeding and conservation for giant pandas. You will have an opportunity to watch them up close in and environment that simulates the natural habitat. After lunch at a local restaurant, travel to the Mount Emei Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the Leshan Giant Buddha. Carved in a red sandstone hill, this 233 foot statue is the tallest stone Buddha statue in the world. (B,L)

Day 11: Chengdu | Chongqing
In the morning,  transfer to train station for your high-speed train ride to Chongqing. Upon arrival, meet and greet. Your Chongqing tour begins at the Three Gorges Museum, one of the largest museums in China. Then continue to  Ciqikou Ancient Town, with its stone plated roads and traditional Ming and Qing dynasties style architecture. In the evening, enjoy a hot pot dinner at a local restaurant then transfer to pier to board a boat for your 3-day cruise.  (B,D)

Day 12: Shibaoqhi Excursion (Fengdu or Wanzhou)
Today’s excursion is to Shibaozhai Temple, a 12-story, 18th-century structure, built on a nearly 700 foot high hill along the banks of river, representing one of the gems of China architecture along the banks of the Yangtze River. (Shore excursion may be replaced by Fengdu or Wanzhou).  (B,L,D)

Day 13: Yangtze Gorges & Small Gorges
Marvel at the scenery, as your ship passes through the celebrated Qutang and Wu Gorges. Excursion today to the Goddess Stream, a 15 kilometer long tributary to the Yangtze. Later, sail through the Three Gorges ship locks. (Shore excursion may be replaced by Daning River or Shennong Stream).  (B,L,D)

Day 14: Yichang | Shanghai
Disembark and lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Three Gorges Dam, a 600-foot high engineering masterpiece that is one the most productive power station in the world. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Meeting and transfer to your hotel upon arrival. (B,L)

Day 15: Shanghai
Full-day city tour of Shanghai, including The Bund, a popular waterfront area and the classical Yu Yuan Gardens, a highlight of the Old City. After dinner, enjoy an acrobatic show. (B,L,D)

Day 16: Shanghai
The day is yours to continue exploring the city. (B)

Day 17: Depart Shanghai
Transfer to the airport for your return flight. (B)
